About the Department
The Department of Design at Vishwakarma University was established in 2017 with the idea of creating a space where students can explore design in a thoughtful and practical way. Learning here goes far beyond classroom instruction and lectures; much of it comes from working on projects, discussing ideas, testing different approaches, and learning how design decisions affect people in the real world.
As a student, you will spend a lot of time in our state-of-the-art studios and workshops where concepts slowly turn into sketches, prototypes, and finished work. Faculty members guide the process, but there is also a strong culture of conversation and collaboration among students themselves. Visiting designers, guest speakers, and workshops often add another perspective, helping you see how the design field is evolving outside the classroom.
The department also encourages you to think about the impact of design, how it interacts with culture, technology, sustainability, and everyday life. Over time, you begin to develop not just technical skills, but also your own way of observing problems and shaping solutions. By the time students graduate, many have built a body of work that reflects both their creative interests and the practical demands of the design profession.

HoD’s Message
At Vishwakarma University, the Department of Design is committed to fostering innovation aligned with the ever-evolving needs of industry and society. Our educational approach blends interdisciplinary collaboration, emerging technologies, and real-world application to prepare students for dynamic design challenges.
We believe that design education must not only adapt to change, but lead it. By engaging with industry experts across various domains, we ensure our students gain a practical understanding of trends, sustainability practices, and user-centred solutions.
Through interactive seminars, workshops, and industry-driven projects, students are encouraged to explore the boundaries of design thinking. These engagements provide tangible outcomes and contribute to a deep understanding of the global design landscape.

Collabs & MoUs
Industry Engagement At the Department of Design, interaction with the industry is a regular part of how the programme works. The department maintains collaborations with companies, studios, and organisations across different sectors through MoUs, guest sessions, internships, and collaborative projects. These interactions help you understand how design functions beyond the classroom and how ideas move from concept to real-world application. During the programme, you may also work on live industry projects as part of your coursework. These projects usually reflect the kind of challenges designers encounter in practice- starting with research and problem understanding, moving into ideation and prototyping, and eventually presenting workable solutions. Faculty members guide the process, and in many cases, industry professionals are involved as well, offering feedback and practical perspectives along the way.
