About the Department

The Department of Fashion at Vishwakarma University, established in 2017, is a place where students begin to understand fashion not just as clothing, but as a thoughtful blend of design, craft, culture, and technology. If you walk through the studios, you’ll see sketches turning into patterns, fabrics being tested, and ideas slowly becoming garments. The focus is on helping you understand how fashion is imagined, constructed, and brought to life.

Learning here is largely project-driven, which means you spend time actually making things- experimenting with materials, working through design processes, and understanding how garments move from concept to construction. The department also connects students with traditional craft clusters, where they can see how indigenous artisans work with textiles and techniques that have shaped Indian fashion for generations.

The department is supported by a fashion studio and a Centre of Excellence in Design Thinking and Innovation, giving you the space to explore ideas, develop collections, and refine your skills. Along the way, internships, live projects, and exposure to contemporary fashion practices help you understand how the industry operates, from craft traditions to modern fashion systems.
