About-Us

Established as recently as 2017, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Vishwakarma University, Pune, is guided by the vision of empowering engineers who will be the pioneers in manufacturing, mobility, automation and sustainable systems. The department has a great respect for Mechanical Engineering as a key driver of industrial revolutions and is dedicated to training students in its core principles while also keeping up with the breakthroughs in technology.

Through study and application of the core fundamentals of design, analysis, thermodynamics, materials, and manufacturing science, the programme has been innovatively crafted to bring students up to speed with the contemporary world. Emphasising the analytical capability and innovative thinking as well as diagnostic problem-solving skills, you would be able to respond to engineering problems creatively, accurately, and confidently. Classroom and laboratory work have been intertwined so that as a student, you can fully appreciate the practical aspects of engineering.

With the Industry 4.0 era and the revolution in mobility as the background, the Mechanical Engineering curriculum has been designed so as to meet the current needs. Students can select an honours degree in Robotics and Electric Vehicles, and interdisciplinary minors in areas such as Cyber Security, Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual and Augmented Reality, Data Science, Product Design, Web and Mobile Application Development, and Design Thinking & Innovation. This multidisciplinary structure enables you not only to acquire the qualification of mechanical engineer but also to be a multi-disciplinary technologist ready for the leadership role in the changing world industries.

Hod Message

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Vishwakarma University, Pune, was started alongside the launch of the B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering programme in 2017. Since then, the department has deepened its academic roots and connections with the industry, offering a course of study mainly based on the fundamentals of mechanical engineering and supplemented with practical sessions.

Experiments are a major component of the students' learning at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Vishwakarma University, Pune. Throughout the four years of study, students are provided internships to acquire industry exposure and practical skills, and the experience gained is useful for their final year industry training, which is also mandatory in our curriculum. The Technical Club 'Team Overdrive' runs a programme through which the members get to participate in expert sessions, competitions, and work together on different initiatives with other like-minded organisations.

The students of our department benefit from successful industrial collaborations resulting in real-time projects that help them get acquainted with the professional environment and be prepared for a career in the industry. The faculty members who have significant teaching and research experience actively participate in the centres of excellence and university administration alongside their research work in different fields. The department is devoted to producing graduates who are capable of entering the workforce, pursuing further education, conducting research, or starting up a business in the very dynamic global engineering environment that is continually changing.
