About-Us

Statistics are crucial for decision-making based on facts, for policy-making, and for innovation through data across different industries. In view of the increasing importance of statistics in the digital and analytical world, Vishwakarma University, Pune, initiated the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in 2018, under the School of Science & Technology.

The department provides NEP 2020 aligned programs such as Four-Year B.Sc. (Hons.) in Statistics, Data Science, B.Sc. (Research), Statistics, Data Science with the specialisations of Data Analytics and Biostatistics, and M.Sc. Statistics, Data Science with the specialisations of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Biostatistics. Moreover, the programs are strengthened by the partnership with TCS iONs Industry Honour Program.

The programme is designed to equip students with both comprehensive knowledge of statistical theory and practical skills using state-of-the-art tools of data science and analytics. You are trained in probability, statistical inference, data modelling, and machine learning, which provides a good mix of theory and practical use.

The department guarantees relevant industry exposure through well-organised winter and summer internships as well as exclusive semester-long opportunities for top-performing students under the TCS iON collaboration. This combination of academic and industry exposure equips you with the necessary skills for careers in data science, analytics, research, and technology, driving new domains.
