About Us
The Department of Prakrit and Jain Studies was set up in 2022 to promote the academic study of Prakrit languages, Jain philosophy, Agamic literature, and Indian knowledge traditions, as per UGC norms. The department runs two full-time study programmes: a three-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Prakrit and Jain Studies, and a two-year Master of Arts (MA) in Prakrit and Jain Studies.
Both courses give fundamentals in Jainism, Prakrit languages, Jain Agamas, philosophy, ethics, history, culture and comparative religious studies. Learning consists of classical texts as well as encouraging critical thinking, introducing research, and discussing the significance of Jain thought in the modern world.
The courses are led by qualified faculty members with a sound command of the Prakrit language and Jain studies. In addition to maintaining an updated library, the department organises seminars, workshops, and guest lectures and provides guidance for higher studies and research. The atmosphere nurtures ethical values, intellectual rigour, and an enhanced appreciation of India's diverse philosophical legacy.
Our goal is to be recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in Prakrit and Jain Studies. We want to encourage the study of Prakrit languages, Jain philosophy, Agamic literature, ethics, and Indian knowledge systems by providing excellent education, research innovation, and value-oriented teaching.

प्राकृत एवं जैन अध्ययन विभाग में आपका हार्दिक स्वागत है। यह विभाग प्राकृत भाषा, जैन दर्शन एवं भारतीय संस्कृति के अध्ययन और शोध को समर्पित है। हमारा मुख्य उद्देश्य युवा पीढ़ी में प्राकृत भाषा, जैन दर्शन और भारतीय संस्कृति के अध्ययन को प्रोत्साहित करना तथा आध्यात्मिकता और आधुनिक शिक्षा के बीच सशक्त संबंध स्थापित करना है। अनुभवी एवं समर्पित प्राध्यापकों, सुव्यवस्थित पाठ्यक्रम और अध्ययन-अनुकूल वातावरण के माध्यम से हम विद्यार्थियों को शास्त्रीय ज्ञान के साथ नैतिक मूल्यों एवं सम्यक् दृष्टि से जोड़ने का प्रयास करते हैं। अहिंसा, अनेकांतवाद और अपरिग्रह जैसे जैन सिद्धांत हमारी शिक्षण परंपरा की आधारशिला हैं। हमें विश्वास है कि यह विभाग विद्यार्थियों को उच्च शिक्षा, शोध और समाज के लिए उपयोगी, सुसंस्कृत नागरिक बनने की दिशा में प्रेरित करेगा।
